We specializein bringing joy through nostalgic, handmade, and international sweets—fromclassic English favorites and handmade lollipops to premium fudges and Dutchlicorice, both in-store and through our online shop.As a growing local small business, we areseeking a detailed-oriented and reliable Bookkeeper to join our team andmanage our day-to-day financial operations and accounts.Key Responsibilities (Aligned with ANZSCO551211)Reporting directly to the Business Owner,your core duties will include:
Financial Record Keeping: Maintaining complete and accurate financial records, general ledgers, and day-to-day transaction processing using accounting software (e.g., Xero / MYOB).
Accounts Payable & Receivable: Managing invoice entries, reconciliation of supplier bills (local & international importers), processing payments, and managing trade receivables.
Bank Reconciliation & Cash Management: Performing regular bank account, till cash, EFTPOS, and online store payment gateway reconciliations.
Payroll & Compliance: Processing staff wages, PAYE, KiwiSaver, holiday pay calculations, and filing returns accurately with IRD.
GST & Tax Preparation: Preparing and lodging bi-monthly GST returns and ensuring compliance with New Zealand tax obligations.
Financial Reporting: Preparing monthly profit & loss reports, balance sheets, trial balances, and cash flow forecasts to assist management in business planning.
Inventory & POS Auditing: Assisting with stocktake reconciliation between POS/E-commerce inventory and financial systems.
Skills and Qualifications
Qualification/Experience: NZ Diploma in Business/Accounting (Level 5+) or equivalent, OR a minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience as a Bookkeeper in a retail or SME environment.
Software Proficiency: Strong hands-on proficiency in Xero (or MYOB), Excel, and modern POS/E-commerce integrations.
NZ Tax & IRD Knowledge: Solid knowledge of NZ payroll, PAYE, GST, and general IRD reporting requirements.
Attention to Detail: Excellent numerical accuracy, organization skills, and problem-solving ability.
Communication: Clear written and verbal English skills to liaise with suppliers, staff, and accountants.
