Junior Software Developer (Shopify)Location: Albany, AucklandHours: Full-time – 30 hours per weekAbout UsSpace General is a fast-growing New Zealand ecommerce business focused on homeware and furniture. We build and run our business on Shopify and are constantly improving our website, internal systems, and customer experience. You’ll be working closely with our in-house team in our Albany office on real, hands-on projects that directly impact the business.The RoleWe’re looking for a Junior Software Developer who’s keen to grow their skills in a real-world ecommerce environment. This role is mainly focused on Shopify front-end development and project work, with opportunities to also help build and improve our internal tools and reporting apps.This is an office-based role, working alongside our team, with flexible working hours.What You’ll Be Working OnDeveloping and improving our Shopify storefront (themes, sections, UI/UX)Supporting ongoing website projects and feature updatesWorking with designers and marketers to bring ideas to life on the siteHelping build and maintain internal apps and tools (e.g. reports, dashboards, workflows)Fixing bugs, improving performance, and maintaining clean, readable codeLearning best practices for ecommerce development and Shopify ecosystems What We’re Looking ForA junior developer or recent graduate with a strong interest in web developmentComfortable using AI tools (such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, etc.) to assist with development, problem-solving, and learningBasic experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScriptPrevious experience with Shopify is a bonus but not required – we’re happy to train the right personFamiliarity with modern front-end concepts and responsive designIdeally some exposure to ecommerce websites or online retail projects (commercial or personal projects are both fine)Willingness to work in the office and collaborate with the teamA positive attitude, curiosity, and eagerness to learn Nice to Have (But Not Required)Experience with Shopify apps or APIsBasic knowledge of React, Vue, or similar frameworksUnderstanding of ecommerce or online retailExperience working with internal tools, dashboards, or reports Why Join Space GeneralHands-on learning with real projects (not just theory)Supportive team environment with mentoring and growth opportunitiesFlexible working hoursA chance to grow with a fast-moving NZ ecommerce businessOffice-based role in Albany with a collaborative, friendly team How to ApplySend us your CV and a short note about why you’re interested in this role and what you’re keen to learn.
