The comments from various politicians suggest that while there is a consensus on the closeness of the New Zealand-Australian relationship, there are also diplomatic considerations at play when Australia assesses its international partnerships. Whether or not there is agreement on who is the "best friend," it seems that New Zealand and Australia maintain a strong and enduring partnership with mutual respect and collaboration.
